“This is Christmas Day--Present my warm regards to Mrs. Moore and all the family to whom I wish many happy returns of this merry-making season” [W.T. Palfrey to Judge John Moore, December 25, 1845]

Join the Shadows’ family for “A Merry-Making Season.” Throughout December, the Shadows-on-the-Teche will be dressed for the holidays in greenery highlighted with fruits, nuts, and berries. Colorful decorations, antique toys, and a Christmas tree decorated with period ornaments are all featured in period rooms. “A Merry-Making Season” quoted from the Weeks’ Family Papers, describes their observance of the holiday season. Seasonal tours, focusing on holiday celebrations in the nineteenth century, will be offered during the Shadows normal operating hours. Guided tours of the house will emphasize similarities and differences of the nineteenth century celebrations to the present.
