The Shadows-on-the-Teche Plein Air Competition will take place from Saturday, March 10 through Saturday, March 16, 2018.

Open to all artists 18 years and older

Entry Process

The Shadows-on-the-Teche Plein Air is a juried exhibition, with applications reviewed by a committee headed by Erik Koeppel who will choose qualifying Plein Air artists on merit of the Jpeg images submitted for the competition.    

Application Form

All Artist’s Entries must:

  • be received no later than November 15, 2017
  • include 3 images submitted for jury process (online or via USB stick or CD)
  • include fully completed Application Form (pdf)

Image Format

Three images submitted should be unframed paintings

Each image should be in JPEG (.jpg) format and sized to 1000 pixels at their largest dimension (height or width). Each Jpeg is not to exceed 1MG.

Identify each Jpeg as follows: Your last name, then first name, followed by the painting number (e.g., Painting #1, Painting #2, and Painting #3)

Acceptance and Fee:

Selected artists will be notified following judge’s approval process. Those accepted will be asked to submit a $40 processing fee and will be provided with more event details.

Cash Awards: Cash prizes will be awarded from the juried body of works in the exhibition.

  • Best in Show -- $3,000
  • Second Place Award -- $1,500
  • Third Place Award -- $1,000
  • Fourth Place Award--$500         

Shadows-on-the-Teche is a Historic Site owned and operated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, a 501c3 tax exempt organization. Profits raised from this event will be used to fund an annual Shadows Art Workshop to provide art education for adults and children and encourage an interest in and an appreciation for the visual arts.
