• The Shadows is the first National Trust for Historic Preservation site in the Gulf South. The home and garden are as breathtaking as the history preserved here.

Join Friends of the Shadows - Preserving the Past for the Future

Whether your passion is history, art, architecture, or education, you can make a difference by making a gift to preserve the past for future generations. We rely on private contributions for the continuation of the preservation efforts, educational programs, and research. When you become a Friend of the Shadows, you join with others, like yourself, who are committed to continuing the work began by Weeks Hall over 50 years ago. Consider a planned gift or become a member today.

The Shadows-on-the-Teche, National Trust for Historic Preservation site, opened to the public in 1961 with the mission to preserve the buildings, landscape, collections, and historical integrity of the site; to research and interpret through education programs a 19th century southern Louisiana plantation economy and community and their evolution; and to encourage an appreciation of and interest in historic preservation. The Shadows is a not-for-profit organization that is responsible for its own operating budget and receives no federal, state, parish, or city funding. The site supports itself through admissions, special programs and events, and donations to the Friends of the Shadows.
